One Woman and a Broken Pencil (OWBP) creates innovative programs that bring youth, seniors, families, and communities together through education, creativity, wellness, entrepreneurship, and meaningful community engagement. Our programs are designed to strengthen minds, build confidence, encourage lifelong learning, create opportunities, and ensure people of all ages have supportive spaces where they can learn, connect, and be heard.
STEAM Ahead with OWBP

STEAM Ahead with OWBP provides hands-on experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Youth develop critical-thinking, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through puzzles and brain games, robotics, engineering challenges, science experiments, art, coding, gaming, technology, and mobile app development.
STEAM Ahead introduces young people to new possibilities while connecting learning to education, careers, entrepreneurship, and real-world experiences.
Young Entrepreneurs
Dream • Develop • Launch • Grow
OWBP's Young Entrepreneurs initiative gives youth opportunities to turn their creativity and ideas into real-world experiences. Participants learn about business development, budgeting, pricing, marketing, customer service, communication, product development, sales, and financial literacy.
Through workshops, youth markets, presentations, and hands-on business experiences, young entrepreneurs have opportunities to develop products and services, practice their pitches, earn revenue, build confidence, and explore entrepreneurship as a future career pathway.
The Golden Connection
Connect • Engage • Learn • Thrive
The Golden Connection supports older adults through activities that encourage meaningful connections, emotional wellness, health education, cognitive stimulation, lifelong learning, and social engagement.
The program provides a welcoming and supportive environment where seniors can participate in activities, learn technology, build relationships, access community resources and referrals, and remain connected to their community. OWBP also creates opportunities for seniors and youth to learn from one another through intergenerational activities.
Community Engagement & Conversations

OWBP hosts community engagement events that create safe, welcoming spaces for open and meaningful conversations about the issues that affect us all. These events bring together youth, seniors, families, community leaders, service providers, educators, and other stakeholders to discuss topics such as mental and emotional wellness, health, education, youth development, public safety, violence prevention, technology, financial wellness, family relationships, aging, and access to community resources.
The goal is not simply to talk about community challenges, but to listen to different perspectives, reduce stigma, share information, connect residents with resources, strengthen relationships, and identify solutions together.
